Happy New Year! π₯ Reader Welcome to 2026. I hope your New Year's Eve was a bit more exciting than ours. If you were scrolling through Instagram, it looked like everyone was at a glitzy party or popping champagne on a beach. Meanwhile, at the Valadares household, things wereβ¦ different. Both Katie and I were hit with a nasty bug π€§ to start the year. We didn't even make it to the ball drop; we were lights out by 10:00 PM. The first few days of 2026 have been a blur of tissues, blankets, and averaging maybe 3,000 steps a day because it was too cold (and we were too weak) to leave the house. However, there was one silver lining: But whether you started the year partying or hibernating, the reality is we are all back to the grind now. And if youβre like most people, "Get Financially Secure" is sitting at the top of your resolution list. In the spirit of total transparency (and keeping myself accountable), I want to start the year by opening my books. Here is exactly how my personal portfolio performed to close out 2025. I believe you shouldn't take advice from someone who doesn't show their work. Here is the breakdown of my asset performance for the final quarter of 2025. The Winners ( β ):
The Losers (β):
The "Flatline" (β):
Diversification saved me. If I had been 100% in Crypto or Stock Options, this would be a red report. Instead, boring old Registered Accounts and alternative assets (Art/Whiskey) pushed the overall portfolio into the green. Speaking of that 0% Real Estate return... we are working hard to change that. Rental Property Status:
The Tenant Hunt: I posted a "Renovation Transition" video on Facebook to show the progress, and the response has been huge. We have already started accepting applications (through a Google Form)
π The "No Excuses" Sale (Subscriber Exclusive)If "Fix My Finances" is on your 2026 resolution list, I want to remove every barrier standing in your way. I am running the biggest sale I have ever offered on my signature course: Adulting 101. I announced this on Instagram this morning, but here is the secret: The general public only got a code for $75 off. Because you are subscribed to this newsletter (and because I like you more), I created a private code just for you that unlocks $100 OFF. This isn't your boring textbook finance course. It is the comprehensive, foundational education that our clinical system overlooked. Why This Course Is Your Solution:
What You Will Master:
The regular retail price for this comprehensive course is $350 CAD. For THE NEXT 30 HRS you can enroll in Adulting 101 for just $250 CAD, thatβs $100 off the retail price! This is the most comprehensive, accessible beginner course I've ever created, specifically designed to translate complex financial concepts into actionable steps for healthcare professionals. The Deal:

Reader. I am officially back in Hamilton after an incredible weekend in Mexico. Swapping the beach for the February cold is always a harsh reality check, but we have a lot of ground to cover today. While I was away, the final receipts for the rental renovation came in (yup, more than I anticipated- I forgot how much this type of labour costs), the official inflation data dropped, and Iβve been testing some new automation tools that will save you serious money this year. π Market Update:...

Reader. It was a massive family affair last night in Toronto. We got the whole crew together: Katie's parents (Lesley and Randy), her brother Mike and his family (Ca and baby Orion). We were hosted by Julie's (Katie's other brother Matt's wife) parents Nelly and Dale. I ended up chatting with Dale for a solid hour (as one does after a few glasses of wine) about everything from politics to the economy. But one topic kept coming up: "Is the money actually going to be there when I need it?" Dale...
